UP gears up for India International Science Festival, 6,000 delegates to take part

President Ram Nath Kovind is all set to grace the fourth edition of the India International Science Festival (IISF) on Friday, which is scheduled to be held from October 5 to 8 in Uttar Pradesh, official said.

Over 6,000 delegates and 2,000 students from across the country are expected to participate in the festival. Twenty international delegates and 200 startups are also readying to attend the event at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow, the official said.

The IISF-2018 under the theme ‘Science with Transformation’ is being organised in the northern state for the first time.

 “The state has got the opportunity to host the festival for the first time and the state government has extended all cooperation for the event,” Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said.

Speaking at the curtain raiser of the event earlier, Union Science and Technology Minister Harsh Vardhan said that the festival will be given a tribute to former prime minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, for bringing science to the centre stage of national agenda.

 “We have done curtain raiser events in bigger cities,” he said, adding over 200 innovations will be on display in the festival.

During the outreach programmes for the event, which was conducted in 77 cities in last one month, over 15,000 children and scientists participated, they said.

Apart from the delegates, over 800 women entrepreneurs and environment experts will also take part in the festival. 

IISF 2018 is being organised by the Science and Technology Ministry and Earth Sciences Ministry in association with Vijnana Bharti or VIBHA, an RSS-linked science organisation.
