India jumps to 100th position in ease of doing business rankings

Union finance minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday said India’s rank has improved in ease of doing business index after a World Bank’s latest release put the nation at 100th spot which was 130 in 2016.

Jaitley said, “We were ranked 142 in 2014 and 130 last year in ease of doing business World Bank list. This year we have taken a 30 point jump to 100.”

While expressing satisfaction over progress, Jaitley said World Bank report said India is one country which has been undertaking structural reforms.

He said,” India jumped 53 places to 119 in ease of paying taxes as per the World Bank report.”

Jaitley further added,” Taking India in top 50 countries on ease of doing business ranking is doable.”

While dubbing it as historic jump, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Twitter hailed India's ranking, saying it is the outcome of the all-round and multi-sectoral reform push of Team India.
