New Delhi:

Calling the terror strike on the Army Public School in Peshawar barbaric, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said the people of India stand united with Pakistan in their resolve to fight the menace of terrorism.

"I am deeply shocked at the barbaric killing of school children by terrorists in Peshawar. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of victims of this enormous tragedy. We stand united with the people of Pakistan in their resolve to fight menace of terrorism and condemn use of violence under any circumstance," said Gandhi.

Earlier in the day, President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack and called the terror strike as a 'senseless act of unspeakable brutality'.

The ongoing attack on the Peshawar school by the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has reportedly led to the death of 130 people, including at least 100 students.

According to reports, around 10 terrorists had stormed the Peshawar school dressed as Frontier Corps officers. Two to three militants were killed while scaling its walls. One of the militants reportedly blew himself up, while another terrorist is believed to still have over 50 captives in his custody.

A strong contingent of police and security forces reached the spot and blocked the area as the operations took place. The police have also reportedly surrounded the school perimeter.

Meanwhile, TTP spokesman Muhammad Khorasani has said that the attackers were instructed to target the older students but not the younger ones.
