A test fire of a surface-to-air missile 'Spyder' was held on Thursday in India.
The trial was carried out from a test range in Odisha as part of a series of tests of the short-range quick reaction missile.
According to official sources the test was in order to check the accuracy of various parameters of the sophisticated weapon system to further strengthen its air defence system.
The acquired missile system namely 'Spyder' is a short-range, quick reaction surface-to-air missile from Israel which is going to be launched in order to strike an enemy air target within a very short time.
It is worthy to mention that the strike range of the state-of-the-art missile is about 15 km in low altitude which is shorter than
India'sindigenously developed surface-to-air 'Akash' missile.

'Akash' missile has a strike range of about 25 km in low altitude.
The test fire of the weapon took place at Chandipur from a mobile launcher at launch complex 3 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR).
According to further declaration of the sourced the trial was in order to target a pilot-less target aircraft.
