Indian Army is working on a project to arm its T-90 main battle tanks with a third generation missile system and improved engines to enhance the tank fleets destructive power.
PTI quoting documents related to the project wrote, “As the design of the existing INVAR missile has been maximised, both in terms of range and depth of penetration (DoP), it is imperative to upgrade it to next generation missiles with enhanced capability."
According to sources in the Indian Army the T-90 tanks will be soon capable of hitting targeting upto range of eight kilometers.
Sources added that the tank will be capable enough to hit targets by taking pre-flight programmed manoeuvres and firing against mobile as well as static targets.
The Indian Army is also working on a project to install modular engine for T-90 tanks.
According to sources the modular engines will enhance strike capability of the tanks in high-altitude battle field.
Currently the Russian origin T-90 tanks are mainstays of the Indian Army’s offensive formation and are equipped with laser guider INVAR missile system.
