Vajpayee's Death: Celebrities mourn the loss of 'lovely human being'

Saddened by the demise of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Thursday, celebrities from across the country took to Twitter to pay their homage and tributes to the great BJP leader. Vajpayee passed away at AIIMS Delhi at 5.05 pm, following prolonged illness and multiple organs failure.

Boman Irani took to his Twitter handle to convey his condolence message. He wrote, “It is rare to find love and respect across the entire political spectrum. Atalji, was the rarest of them all. Alvida #AtalBihariVajpayee.”

The 'Saathiya' fame, Vivek Oberoi wrote, “ A true legend, respected statesman, phenomenal poet, tall leader beyond stature, respected by even his strongest critics and rivals...#Atalji passes on. Leaving behind a legacy of greatness that will inspire generations forever! #AtalBihariVajpayee.”

“One of the few statesman who brought dignity and esteem to politics. His dream and steadfast application of Road connectivity changed and continue to change millions of lives in our country. Bowing with respect to our beloved leader #AtalBihariVajpayee ji,” wrote the Baahubali director, S S Rajamouli.

Along with Bollywood celebrities, Indian cricketers also expressed their sadness at the great loss on Twitter.

Sachin Tendulkar wrote: “India is at a great loss today. Shri #AtalBihariVajpayee ji’s contributions to our nation have been innumerable. Thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones.”

Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma tweeted: "If you're not feeling the loss, you're no Indian.#AtalBihariVajpayee."

"Last I cried was on Dr. Kalam’s demise and now I am crying on Atal ji’s demise. Leaders who made working class believe that if you work hard you too can become prime minister one day. ," wrote Virender Sehwag.

Former Indian cricketer, Vinod Kambli, also wrote, "Another gem of a person, India lost.. He was one of the greatest leaders, an amazing orator and an extraordinary statesman.. He who won many hearts, even that of his opponents, may his soul rest in peace.."

The celebrated comic actor Vir Das wrote, “ Whether you agreed with him or not, you couldn't help but respect the sheer statesmanship, wisdom, and eloquence of the man. RIP #AtalBihariVajpayee.”

Sanjay Dutt also paid tribute to the former prime minister on Twitter. He wrote, “Indeed a big loss for our country as we pay our last tribute to #AtalBihariVajpayee ji. He was a close family friend and his legacy will forever be remembered. Thank you for your selfless service, sir! My heartfelt condolence to everyone.”

Indian TV actor Karanvir Bohra wrote, “I'm moved by the love this nation has for #AtalBihariVajpayee ji Loved across all political spectrums. Loved not only as a leader, poet, orator but also as a lovely human being.... #endofanera my condolences to the entire family”.

Indian boxer-turned-actor and celebrity judge, Vijender Singh also tweeted: “One of the Greatest PM this Country has ever seen.A visionary, A poet, A statesman, A man who won over million hearts. Man who deserves nothing but respect. Bharat Ratna #AtalBihariVajpayee is no more with us. His contribution for the motherland will inspire generations to come.“ 

Malayalam film industry superstar Mohanlal wrote on his Twitter handle, “One of the greatest Prime Ministers India has ever seen, He served his life to our nation and will always be in our hearts. Rest in Peace Atalji #AtalBihariBajpayee

Condoling his death, the BJP cancelled all its planned events, including its national executive meet in the national capital. The government has also declared seven-day mourning in the country.  

One of the oldest politicians in the country, Vajpayee was loved and adored by all across party lines and nationwide. May his soul Rest in Peace.
