New Delhi:

The Indian Navy launched 'Karanj,' the third Scorpene class submarine built at Mumbai's Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) on Wednesday morning.

The ultramodern features of the Scorpene include advanced acoustic silencing techniques, low radiated noise levels, hydro-dynamically optimised shape, superior stealth and capacity to launch deadly attacks with precision-guided weapons.

Karanj can launch attacks with torpedoes both while being submerged and while being on the surface in all war situations including the tropics, giving it an unmatched firepower and invincibility.

Karanj has an overall length of 67.5 metres and a height of about 12.3 metres. The hull form, fin, and hydroplanes are specifically designed to produce minimum underwater resistance.

Admiral Sunil Lanba, Chief of the Naval Staff, was the chief guest on the occasion.
