Aarav Appukuttam, born a woman, met Sukanyeah Krishna, born a man, met at a doctor’s clinic while waiting they waited for consultation for gender reassignment.
The three-hour wait at the clinic instigated a conversation, which turned into friendship soon. Overtime the two started small talks over the phone which turned to long conversations and finally they fell in love. Now the duo have decided to marry each other.
What made them come closer was humiliation and mockery from strangers for not fully embracing the gender they were born with.
Aarav now 46-year-old man from Kerala and Sukanyeah a 22-year-old woman shared the same history while growing up.
According to Hindustan Times Aarav felt uncomfortable in his own body. He had long hairs and was surrounded by girls in class.
He told the daily newspaper that he felt uncomfortable sitting beside girls and attraction towards them.
He also told the newspaper that his gender identity disorder (GID) got worse after he lost his mother and had to take care of his siblings.
The newspaper quoting Aarav wrote, “I had to restrain myself and keep my feelings in control for 45 years. I had to behave as everything was normal.”
However, things were bit difficult for Sukanyeah. She told the media that she was taken to a doctor who treated her with male hormone therapy.
She told the English daily that no one understood what she faced within.
According to a report published in MidDay the two initially talked about their surgeries and treatment process.
She told the tabloid that initially they talked over the phone once a week, then the frequency increased and soon they started talking daily.
