BJP MP Vinay Katiyar spews venom against Priyanka Chopra for visiting Rohingya refugees

Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra’s move to visit Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh has irked firebrand Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Vinay Katiyar.

Katiyar, who is notorious for his controversial remarks, on Thursday spewed venom against the Bollywood actress for her humanitarian gesture to visit Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh and said that the actress should not be allowed to live in the country.

“Priyanka Chopra should not have gone to meet them. Rohingya Muslims should not be allowed to live in this country & those who sympathize with them should also be not allowed to live here,” ANI quoted the BJP MP as saying.

On May 22, the Bollywood actress, who is also the Unicef goodwill ambassador for child rights, had visited Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh.

Priyanka had also posted her pictures with refugee kids on social media, which highlighted the plight of Rohingyas living in refugee camps.

Thousands of Rohingya refugees were forced to flee Myanmar after the ethnic violence that erupted in the country in August 2017. Most of them fled to Bangladesh, which was already bearing the load of lakhs of refugees settled there over decades.

They were living in refugee camps set up as temporary accommodation for them. The Cox’s Bazaar camp Priyanka visited was one of the largest refugee camps in the world.
