The cracks in Congress, emerged following its disastrous performance in 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, may widen further with former Guna MP Jyotiraditya Scindia reportedly gearing up to snap his decade-long association with the party. All is not well between Scindia and Congress for a quite some time now with the former, at sharp variance with party leader Rahul Gandhi, supported the BJP government's crucial Article 370 move in Jammu and Kashmir.

Taking to twitter, the Congress leader said, "I support the move on Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh and its full integration into union of India. Would have been better if constitutional process had been followed. No questions could have been raised then. Nevertheless, this is in our country’s interest and I support this".

Amid this strained relationship, Deccan Chronicle on Sunday reported that Scindia, the scion of the erstwhile royal family of Gwalio, has already started preparations to start a new political innings sans Congress anytime soon. However, there is no clearance on whether he will join any other political party or float something new on his own.

Speaking to the news daily, sources close to Scindia said, "History may repeat itself in Madhya Pradesh with Mr Scindia seriously mulling to follow footsteps of his grandmother late Vijayaraje Scindia who pulled down the state Congress government in MP in 1967 to avenge her humiliation by the then Chief Minister DP Mishra".

Sources were asked about Scindia's future course of action on the heels of he being denied the post of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief in Madhya Pradesh, a move which was a big blow to many.

According to reports, the former AICC general secretary was deprived of the MPCC president's post after Chief Minister Kamal Nath purportedly told Sonia Gandhi, the Congress interim chief, that Scindia was a leader of a particular region in Madhya Pradesh and could be ignored for the top designation in the party's state unit.

There were also reports that senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh last week visited the Gwalior-Chambal region, considered the stronghold of Scindia, indicating an attempt to 'poach' party leaders and workers loyal to the former. These developments were followed by a dramatic post by Aryan Scindia, son of the Madhya Pradesh Congress leader, where he said that one must retaliate if one's dignity was hurt.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Scindia has supported BJP Govt's Article 370 move in J-K, strongly criticised by Rahul Gandhi.
  • Scindia was recently denied the post of Madhya radesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief.
