J&K: NIA launches inquiry in alleged Pakistan funding to Hurriyat leaders

New Delhi:

National Investigative Agency on Friday registered a preliminary enquiry into the funding of Hurriyat leaders SAS Geelani, Naeem Khan and others in Jammu and Kashmir by Hafiz Saeed and Pakistan-based terrorists.

The NIA team led by senior members have reached Srinagar for further inquiry regarding funding of Hurriyat, sources told news agency ANI.

The enquiry has been reportedly launched after several top Kashmiri separatists were caught on camera confessing to receiving funds from across the border.

On Tuesday, news channel India Today aired the special investigative report where Hurriyat's Provincial President (Geelani Faction) Naeem Khan was caught on camera admitting Pakistan is funding the violence in Kashmir Valley.

Some of them also reportedly admitted they raised money domestically, pledging to repeat the deadly events of 2016 if financed again. The stunning probe that rips apart the devious designs of anti-India forces in Kashmir includes Hurriyat's Provincial President (Geelani Faction) Naeem Khan, Tehreek-E-Hurriyat's leader Gazi Javed Baba, and JKLF chairman Farooq Ahmed Dar (Bitta Karate).

After the video went on air, Naeem Khan repotedly went to channel's office in Srinagar and threatened the reporters. He also asked them to take down the story and drop the expose.

In another incident, JKLF chief Yasin Malik, also named in video, allkegedly assulated a journalist of the same channel when she went to Malik's house to get a reaction on the story.

Reacting on the matter, Malik said that journalist had barged into his bedroom and started shooting the video without permission.

On the NIA investigation, the JKLF chief said that if anything is found on him he will quit the politics.

"Journalism has hit a new low in the country. No ethics followed and also calls them without uniform armed forces. The sting that was done on separatists leaders was also tried on me," Malik told reporters at a press conference in Srinagar on Friday.
