Amid the blowing of conches and beating of cymbals, the 141st annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath started from Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri on Saturday. Lakhs of devotees, who waited outside the temple gates to take a glimpse of their God, took part in the Rath Yatra.
The pulling of the three chariots- Nandighosa (Jagannath), Taladhwaja (Balabhadra) and Devadalana (Subhadra) - began after performing the Mangala alati, Mailam, Tadapa Lagi and other rituals at the Puri temple.
Massive security arrangements have been put in place ahead of the annual Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri. A special protection cover has been created around the three chariots. As many as 140 platoons of police and NSG commandos have been deployed for the security.
