In a major reshuffle, the Rashtrapati Bhavan has transferred some Governors and made fresh appointments in several states. According to a communique, Jagdeep Dhankhar has been appointed as the new Governor of West Bengal, replacing Keshari Nath Tripathi.
Dhankhar is a noted lawyer and former Lok Sabha MP from Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan. He was the Member of Parliament from 1989 to 1991 and served as central minister in Government during this period. Before contesting Lok Sabha elections, he was Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Kishangarh, Rajasthan. He is former President of Rajasthan High Court Bar Association, Jaipur.
Dhankhar, who did his L.L.B from Jaipur, is also a member of ICC International Court of Arbitration. He quit Congress party in 2003 to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
While Anandiben Patel has replaced Ram Naik as new Uttar Pradesh Governor, Ramesh Bais has been appointed as the Governor of Tripura. Earlier, Patel was the Governor of Madhya Pradesh.
Lal Ji Tandon, who is at present the Governor of Bihar, has been transferred and appointed as the Governor of Madhya Pradesh, the statement said.
Phagu Chauhan has been appointed as the Governor of Bihar. RN Ravi has been appointed as the Governor of Nagaland.
“The appointments will take effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices,” the Rashtrapati Bhavan statement added.
