Jaipur: Mother kills 4-month-old daughter because 'she wanted son'

A 35-year-old woman was arrested by city police on Thursday for allegedly murdering her four-month-old daughter in what appears to be a suspected case of female infanticide, reports said. The woman allegedly slit the throat of the infant because she wanted a boy, police said.

The murder took place on August 26. The incident came to light after the girl, daughter of an industrialist, was found with her throat slit at her house in Shastri Nagar.

Shockingly, the woman tried to kill the infant on August 19 too, but did not succeed. The child was admitted to hospital, police said.

“We found the mother was unhappy over having a baby girl as she wanted a boy. The couple has another eight-year-old girl and her parents tried numerous times to have a boy,” said deputy commissioner of police (north) Anshuman Bhomia.
