Jallikattu supporters on Tuesday celebrated the supreme court's order refusing to stay the new legislation passed recently by the Tamil Nadu assembly allowing bull-taming sport in the state.
The enthusiasts distributed sweets and burst crackers to celebrate what they called ‘a very happy news.’
A bench of Justices Dipak Misra and R F Nariman also permitted the Centre to withdraw the January 7, 2016 notification allowing Jallikattu in Tamil Nadu.
It also slammed the TN govt for not following law and order during protests in support of Jallikattu at Chennai's Marina Beach, which ended with Tamil Nadu enacting law to bypass a ban on the bull-taming sport.
