A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) was killed in an IED blast along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.

The martyred soldier is identified as Naib Subedar S Sanayaima Kom, who hailed from Manipur and is survived by his wife and three children.

The unfortunate incident happened on Saturday afternoon near the LoC. Naib Subedar Kom sustained grievous injuries and was shifted to a hospital where he failed to survive.

A defence spokesperson said that Naib Subedar S Sanayaima Kom was killed in an IED blast along the LoC in Poonch district.
He, however, did not give details as to how the blast took place along the LoC and whether the IED was planted by cross-border militants.

This incident happened when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Jammu region in April and alert sounded along the border with a high degree of vigilance at vital installations in J&K.

Modi is visiting the region to inaugurate India's longest road tunnel at Chenani in Udhampur district where he will also address a public rally on April 2.
