J-K Civic Poll Results: Congress wins 157 seats, BJP 100

The Indian National Congress has won 157 seats (79 contested and 78 uncontested) in the civic body polls of Jammu and Kashmir. The Bharatiya Janata Party has won has won 100 seats (24 contested and 76 uncontested), according to ANI. Independent candidates have won 178 seats out of which 103 seats were contested and 75 uncontested.

 The Indian National Congress has won all 13 wards of Leh Municipal Committee.

In Jammu Municipal Board there are 75 wards and BJP won 43 seats, Indian National Congress won 14 seats and Independent candidates won 18 seats.

In municipal committees there are 7 wards, of them BJP has won two seats, INC has won four seats and independent candidate won one seat, according to the Election Commission.

The BJP won the urban local body elections in four districts of militancy-infested south Kashmir Saturday, winning 53 of the 132 wards, where polls were held over four phases earlier this month, election officials said.

The elections in the 79 municipal bodies across the state were held in four phases on October 8, 10, 13 and 16, respectively. A total of 17 lakh votes were eligible to exercise their franchise. As many as 3372 nominations were filed for 1145 wards.

Of 79 civic bodies, elections could not be held in 27 civic bodies in the Valley due to no candidate or only one candidate had filed nominations. In the absence of two major regional parties – National Conference (NC) and the People's Democratic Alliance (PDP) – the fight was between the traditional rivals the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
