Jammu and Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti seeks support of state officials to eradicate corruption

In a first Chief Minister (CM) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) has sought support and assistance from state officials from various departments to eradicate corruption that has crippled the state for long time. 

Mehbooba Mufti today said that corruption is a scourge which eats up the vitals of the society. She has sought support from her officials to provide result-oriented governance to people prticularly residents of far off hilly areas.  

She sought the support of officers to ensure providing a clean, prompt and result-oriented governance to people,particularly to those living in far-off and hilly areas of the state.  "Alone, I cannot do anything.

Your role is critical in providing an honest and responsive administration to thepeople," Mufti said wile chairing a meeting of Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of Jammu region here. She complemented the Deputy Commissioners in the way they have handled the issues with maturity.

The CM instructed the DCs to increase their public outreach and address the grievances of people from far flung areas.   She told them to specify a day in a week for meeting people and redress their grievances.

The chief minister, however, cautioned the deputy commissioners against harassing any community or group in their drive against encroachments or protection of forest areas.

Instructing them to handle such issues compassionately, Mufti said, "The law must be enforced on equal terms whiledealing with cases of bovine smuggling or cow vigilantism. She directed the deputy commissioners to be strict with those found indulging in "sowing seeds of hatred" amongcommunities and people.

The CM also took a feedback regarding arrangements made by district administrations for the people dislodged due toshelling in border areas. The chief minister directed installation of crash barriers on priority basis on the Ramban-Banihal stretch of the National Highway to avoid accidents.

Mehbooba reviewed the progress of a number of projects like Jammu-Akhnoor road widening, Jammu airport expansion,Tawi barrage and asked the deputy commissioners to personally supervise the completion of these on time.
