An Army jawan was killed and four terrorists gunned down in an encounter between security forces and terrorists in the Nadigam area of Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district early on Tuesday, according to news agency ANI. Three soldiers were also injured in the joint operation by the Army, paramilitary forces and the Jammu and Kashmir Police. According to early reports, security forces were believed to have trapped at least two-three terrorists in the encounter. The security forces received intelligence input about the presence of terrorists in the area. A search operation was launched based on the input.

Earlier on Sunday too, two terrorists were gunned down by security forces in an encounter in Shopian. The security forces began a cordon and search operation early on Sunday morning in the Rebban area of Zainapora after receiving credible inputs about the presence of terrorists. The terrorists fired on the search party, following which security forces retaliated leading to an encounter. Arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. The police had registered a case and initiated investigation in the matter. On November 13, three terrorists were killed in separate encounters with security forces in the state.
