Amid high-octane political drama over BJP-PDP break-up in Jammu and Kashmir, another encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Anantnag district during wee hours on Friday.

The gunfight is currently underway in Srigufwara area of the militancy-hit state. According to latest reports, four terrorists are gunned down by security forces in the region.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation, which turned into a gunfight after the militants fired upon the forces, who retaliated. The search operation came after receiving specific intelligence input about the presence of militants in the area.

Earlier on Wednesday, a constable lost his life after militants fired upon a police vehicle at Kandizal near Galander Bypass on Srinagar-Jammu highway area of Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

On June 19, three terrorists were gunned down by security forces in Pulwama’s Hayuna Tral area.

Security forces resumed anti-terror operation along LoC a day after Home Minister Rajnath Singh decided not to extend the "unilateral ceasefire" in Jammu and Kashmir beyond Eid.

The Centre on May 16, announced a unilateral cessation of operations against militants keeping in mind the holy month of Ramzan. Pakistan, however, did not honour India's decision to maintain the ceasefire and time and again violated it across the Line of Control (LoC).
