Opposition parties including National Conference, Congress and CPI(M) on Friday staged a walkout from Jammu and Kashmir Assembly in protest against the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Earlier, the assembly passed resolution amidst protest by opposition parties for implementing GST on July 5. Earlier on the same day, assembly speaker Kavinder Gupta expunged the “intimidating and unparliamentary” words used by members during heated exchanges in the House over the last two days and directed the media not to report them.

On June 5, people staged protests due to proposed rollout of GST in the state leading to closure of most shops and business establishments in Kashmir.
