New Delhi:

A minor girl and an Indian Army jawan were killed in a cross-border firing by Pakistan on Monday near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch's Balakote.  Pakistan reportedly violated ceasefire along the LoC in Poonch's Balakote and Rajouri'a Manjakote.

The army jawan killed in the crossfire has been identified as Naik Muddasar Ahmed, a native of J&K's Tral region.

"2 civilians seriously injured, schools closed for an indefinite period of time, evacuation to be done once there is break in firing," said DDC Rajouri.

The incident took places hours before India and Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations held talks over the situation along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. During the telephonic conversation, Indian Army DGMO Major General AK Bhatt took a strong stand against continuous ceasefire violation by Pak army. Bhatt highlighted that all ceasefire violations were initiated by Pakistan. “And as such, Indian Army reserves right to retaliate appropriately,” he told his Pak counterpart.

Earlier on Saturday, Pakistan resorted to shelling along the Line of Control in Rajouri’s Manjakote. Soldier, Lance Naik Mohammed Naseer was martyred in the attack.

On Wednesday, two Army jawans were killed on Wednesday as Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire in the Keran sector of Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir.

On Tuesday, three militants were killed in an overnight encounter with security forces in central Kashmir's Budgam district.
