Security forces on Monday killed at least three militants after a brief encounter in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, the Army said.
One of the killed terrorist was allegedly involved in a recent attack on a police guard post at Soura in which one constable died.
Two of the three terrorists killed were identified as Eesa Fazli of Srinagar and Syed Owais of Kokernag while the third terrorist’s identity is being ascertained.
No collateral damage took place during the encounter that took place in the wee hours and security forces have recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition including AK 47 rifles, pistols and hand grenades the spot, police said.
Earlier on Sunday night, the forces had launched an anti-militancy operation in the Hakura area of Anantnag following information about the presence of militants in the area.
Following the encounter, authorities have ordered closure of all schools and colleges for Monday in Srinagar fearing protests in the city.
Restrictions have been imposed in old Srinagar city and high-speed internet is also down. One of the killed terrorists belongs to Soura of Srinagar, reported news agency ANI.
