Jammu and Kashmir: Three Lashkar-e-Taiba militants killed, cop injured in encounter in Sopore

Three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants were killed by security forces in an encounter in Sopore area of Jammu and Kashmir’s of Baramulla district, police said.

Following an intelligence about the presence of militants, Security forces launched a massive search operation in Amargarh area of Sopore.

During the search in, militants opened indiscriminate firing on the forces personnel who retaliated.

Three LeT militants were neutralized in the gun battle and weapons have been recovered from them. Internet services have been suspended in Baramulla after the encounter. A police personnel also received serious injuries and was shifted to nearby hospital.

Earlier on Friday, a newly recruited Hizbul Mujahideen militant was gunned down in an overnight encounter with security forces that also resulted in the death of an unidentified person in the ensuing crossfire in south Kashmir's Anantnag district.

The encounter broke late on Thursday night at Kanibal in Bijbehara of Anantnag district, 55 kms from Srinagar, when the police along with Army and CRPF cordoned off a village following an intelligence input about the presence of militants, they said.
