Jammu and Kashmir: Masood Azhar’s nephew among two killed in Tral encounter

Two Jaish-e-Mohammed militants were killed in South Kashmir’s Tral area Tuesday. An M-4 carbine was recovered from the militants, which was possibly used for carrying out sniper attacks on security forces, officials said.

Two bodies were recovered after a day-long encounter that broke out in Chaanketaar village of Tral in Pulwama district, they said.

The killed terrorists were from terror outfit JeM have been identified as Showkat Ahmad Khan from Tral's Handoora & Usman from Pakistan, according to ANI. One of those killed was the nephew of Maulana Masood Azhar, the chief of outlawed Jaish-e-Mohammed.

The intelligence inputs as well as the material seized from the encounter site showed that the terrorists belonged to JeM, they added.

Last week, an Army jawan and a Seema Shashtra Bal personnel were killed in the sniper attacks in Tral area.

On Monday, five Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were injured in a suspected militant attack on their vehicle in the Pantha chowk area on the outskirts of Srinagar city. The incident took place when some gunmen opened fire on the BSF patrol vehicle at the Pantha chowk, resulting in injuries to five jawans.
