An army jawan was today killed in an exchange of fire with militants as the force foiled an infiltration bid along Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara sector of north Kashmir.
A group of militants, trying to infiltrate, was intercepted early this morning by alert troops deployed on the LoC, an army official said.
The militants fired upon the forces leading to an encounter.
In the ensuing gunfight, Sepoy Ramesh Chand Yadav sustained bullet injury, the official said.
He said while being evacuated, the soldier succumbed to his injuries.
The operation to flush out militants was on when the last reports reached, the official said.
