A professor of Jawaharlal Nehru Nehru University was on Friday accused of manhandling a woman student in public during a protest on the campus against compulsory attendance.

Both the parties have filed complaints at the Vasant Kunj Marg police station, a senior police officer said.

A group of students blocked entrances of various schools after the JNU administration issued a circular making it mandatory to have a minimum attendance of 75 per cent to avail and continue fellowships and scholarships.

The protesters alleged a woman student was "violently" manhandled by a professor of Centre for Studies in Science Policy after she tried to talk to him when he "forced his way" to School of Social Sciences.

Attempts to reach the woman student and the professor did not fructify.
