In an exclusive interview to News Nation Prof Jagadesh Kumar appealed has appealed the students to come and talk rather than confining their teachers like this. He said it is wrong to physically confine them as it is only going to affect the university.
JNU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jagadesh Kumar was confined along with other officials for 19 hours led by JNUSU members and students on Wednesday.
JNU VC said that his primary concern is to find out about missing student Najeeb Ahmed and he spoke to JNUSU earlier about it, he also said that confinement was disappointing.
JNUSU president Mohit Pandey said that all essential facilities i.e. food and water were made available to officials confined in Administration building.
Six days after MSc first year student Najeeb Ahmed went missing from the campus the situation got more critical after students from JNU Student Union held University's Vice-Chancellor and other officials in the administrative block hurling their protest against management for not meeting their demands.
The students are demanding the VC to file a new copy of FIR in the missing case. VC Jagdish Kumar while confirming the hostage briefed the situation on twitter and asked the students to let them go. He also refered to the medical condition of some of the office staff insisting their need of medication.
Meanwhile, at least 12 students were summoned earlier in the day by JNU administration to appear before the proctorial committee in connection with a case involving a missing student amid protests by students who claimed Vice Chancellor acted in an "insensitive" manner on the issue.
