'Time To Move On': Jyotiraditya Scindia Quits Congress After Meeting PM Narendra Modi, Amit Shah

The BJP Has Called A Meeting Of The Legislature Party In MP’s State Capital Today Evening To Choose Its Leader.

New Delhi:

Jyotiraditya Scindia on Tuesday resigned from the primary membership of the Congress, hours after he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Home Minister Amit Shah. Scindia has sent his resignation letter to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi. He shared a photograph of the resignation letter on his twitter handle. "As you well know, this path that has been drawing itself out over the last year," Scindia said in the letter dated March 9.

"Having been a primary member of the Congress Party for the last 18 years, it is now time for me to move on. I am tendering my resignation from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress," the letter reads.

"While my aim and purpose remain the same as it has always been from the very beginning, to serve the people of my state and country, I believe I am unable to do this anymore with this party," the Guna MP said.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may send Scindia to Rajya Sabha. According to sources, the Congress leader is likely to be inducted in Modi’s Cabinet. The meeting with PM Modi comes a day after Scindia met Amit Shah at his residence in the national capital. Sources said that the role of Scindia in Madhya Pradesh politics was discussed during the meeting.

Scindia and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath have fallen out over the post of the state Congress president, which is currently held by the CM.

The Congress government in Madhya Pradesh plunged into a crisis on Monday as a sulking Jyotiraditya Scindia, along with 17 MLAs, revolted prompting Chief Minister Kamal Nath to call a late-night cabinet meeting where around 20 ministers resigned reposing faith in his leadership.

Meanwhile, the BJP has called a meeting of the legislature party in MP’s state capital today evening to choose its leader. Former chief minister and BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan is likely to be elected as the leader of the BJP legislature party in the meeting.

Chouhan, they added, has briefed the top party brass, including its president J P Nadda, about the developments in the state.

The party had sent a list of 20 to 22 names, including that of national general secretaries Ram Madhav and Kailash Vijayvargiya, to its central poll panel to pick two candidates for the RS polls. Members of a state's Legislative Assembly vote in the Rajya Sabha elections.
