Switching over to “election mode", Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday kickstarted his party BJP's poll campaign for the forthcoming Karnataka Assembly election 2018.
Modi, while addressing a rally in Santhemarahalli town of Chamarajanagar district, attacked "Naamdar" Congress president Rahul Gandhi and dared him to speak unprompted for 15 minutes on his party's achievements in Karnataka.
“Congress President has challenged me, if he speaks for 15 minutes in Parliament Modi will not be able to sit. I challenge you (Rahul Gandhi) to speak for 15 minutes on the achievements of your government in Karnataka without reading from any piece of paper,†Modi said.
The Prime Minister, rejecting the pre-poll surveys giving the Congress lead in Karnataka polls, claimed that a massive BJP storm will sweep the state Assembly elections.Â
Later in the day, the Prime Minister will address a rally each in Udupi in coastal Karnataka and Chikkodi in north Karnataka. He will address as many as 15 rallies in the southern part of the state over the next five days.
Ahead of the visit, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah fired “welcome†salvo at Modi and asked him to address concerns of the Kannadigas and not give "Jumlas".
Siddaramaiah asked Modi to clear if BS Yeddyurappa was still the BJP's chief ministerial candidate and whether he will be joined by "scam tainted" Reddy brothers during his rallies.
“You first make scam-tainted BS Yeddyurappa your party’s CM face in Karnataka. Then media reports that you don’t want to be seen sharing the stage with him at rallies! Karnataka wants to know if Yeddyurappa is still your CM candidate,†Siddaramaiah tweeted.
The Assembly elections in the southern state will be held on May 12 and the results will be declared on May 15.
