United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi will hit the election campaign trail in Karnataka and address a public rally in Bijapur on Tuesday, party sources said.
The Congress leader will be electioneering after nearly two years since she abandoned her poll campaign midway in Varanasi. She was taken ill during a road show in Varanasi on August 2, 2016, ahead of of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
Ever since, Gandhi was inactive during electioneering in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Meghalaya, Tripura and Nagaland.
In her absence, Rahul Gandhi had steered the party's campaign in the assembly elections. On Monday, he took out a rally against fuel price hike in Karnataka, riding a bicycle and also taking a ride in a bullock cart.
Karnataka Assembly elections is set for polling on May 12.
