Karnataka CM Kumaraswamy to meet PM Modi in Delhi today

Newly sworn in Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Monday. The meeting came days after Kumaraswamy proved majority on the floor of the House in southern states.

The meeting between Kumaraswamy and Modi is being touted as a courtesy call but according to the sources, the Karnataka CM may also discuss farmer’s loan waiver issue with the prime minister.

"It is customary for the new Chief Minister of any state to call on the Prime Minister, soon after assuming office, in our federal set up," Kumaraswamy had told reporters in Bengaluru on Sunday.

After meeting the prime minister, the JD-S leader will also meet with Union Coal Minister Piyush Goyal to discuss the issue of coal supply to the thermal stations in the southern state.

Kumaraswamy, however, denied any meeting with Congress leadership in Delhi over the stalemate on portfolio distribution between the Congress and the JD-S in Karnataka.

"Talks on Cabinet expansion will resume here with state Congress leaders on their return from Delhi, with the names of their legislators to be inducted in the ministry," the Karnataka CM added.
