Karwa Chauth will be celebrated on October 8 this year. The festival comes during the Krishna Paksha Chaturthi in the month of Kartik. It is mainly celebrated by women from the northern part of India.

According to Mahabharata, Karwa Chauth can be traced back to the time when Savitri begged the god of death, Lord Yama, for her husband’s soul. 

On this day, married woman keep a fast in which they do not take food and water from sunrise to moonrise.They observe nirjala vrat for the safety and well being of their husband.

Most women, precisely Punjabis, receive Sargi from their mother-in-law. To bless on this special day, mother-in-law prepared a meal called Sargi for her daughter-in-law which includes fresh fruits, Mithai, Dry fruits and Cooked food.

In this festival, married women observe Karva Chauth break the fast only after offering prayer to the moon.  

Karwa Chauth Puja Timings

The Puja Muhurat for Karwa Chauth begins from 06:03 PM and ends at 07:17 PM. The moon will rise on Karwa Chauth at 08:27 PM. The Chaturthi Tithi on Karwa Chauth begins on the 8 October at 04:58 PM and the Chaturthi Tithi ends on the 9th of October at 02:16 PM.
