Three of the five terrorists holed up inside a civilian’s house in Batote area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district have been gunned down by security forces, Jammu Inspector General of police (IG) Mukesh Singh said. Four security personnel are also injured in the encounter. The terrorists had refused to surrender and taken a civilian hostage. The security forces isolated the house and rescued the hostage after intense gun battle. "Operational contact established in Batote market at around 12:45 pm today. 1 house identified has been isolated where a civilian is hostage. Possibly 5 terrorists are inside. They have refused to surrender so far. Exchange of firing on," the Army said.

# The house owner, who was taken hostage by the terroists, was said to be a BJP worker. Union Minister Jitendra Singh said that he was relieved to hear that he has been rescued.
