The life in Kerala has been hit hard by the unprecedented flood following incessant rains that also triggered landslides, claiming around 325 lives. On Thursday, the torrential rains and flood claimed at least 30 lives, destroying homes, roads as the public transport collapsed in many parts of Kerala. Kochi Metro has suspended their operations due to the conditions as Kerala reels under one of its worst floods in history.
An immediate central assistance of Rs 100 crore has been announced for relief works by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on August 12 after he took an aerial survey of the flood-hit regions.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan called Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking more aid and also sought additional Army personnel and helicopters.
For the first time in history, Kerala has opened 35 of its 39 dams.
