A Dubai-bound passenger was arrested on charges of attempting to smuggle foreign currencies worth Rs 1.2 crore, at the international airport, said DRI officials on Thursday.
DRI sleuths intercepted Muhammed Azgar Ali(20), a native of Kasargod district, around 11 PM on Wednesday, when he was about to board an Air India Express flight after security check.
During the search, officials found different denominations of currencies of Qatar, Saudi Arabia and UAE, to the tune of Rs 1.20 crore, concealed inside a thermos flask in his baggage, which was seized, they said.
