Kerala love jihad case: Man files plea in Supreme Court against NIA probe

The ambiguities in connection with the controversial case of conversion and marriage of a Hindu woman to a Muslim man in Kerala seems to have no end.

In the latest development, Shafeen Jahan has filed a plea in the Supreme court against the National Investigation Agency probe into his marriage alleging that the NIA isn’t being “fair” in its investigation.

In his plea, Jahan stated that his wife Hadiya, known as Akhila before conversion, is confined to her parental home and is under physical and mental attack by her family.

The Supreme Court is likely to hear Jahan’s plea on September 22.

The case came into limelight when the Kerala High Court had annulled the marriage, terming it as an instance of "love jihad". The apex court directed the NIA to probe the incident under the supervision of a retired apex court judge, Justice R V Raveendran, who later withdrew from the case citing personal reasons.

Ashokan K M, Hadiya's father, had alleged that there was a "well-oiled systematic mechanism" for conversion and Islamic radicalization and his daughter was a "helpless victim".
