The result of the Monsoon Bumper Lottery BR-68 organised by the Lottery department of the Kerala government will be announced today i.e. Thursday. It was in 1967 when the government of Kerala, in order to give a major boost to revenue generation, set up a lottery department. The idea is said to have been the brainchild of the then Finance Minister of Kerala, late PK Kunju. This became a source of non-tax revenue for the state while it also provided a source of stable income to the poor.
The results of the seasonal Bumper Lottery will go live on the portal of Directorate of Kerala State Lotteries i.e. https://keralalotteries.com/
The winner of the first prize will be awarded with Rs 5 crore while the second and third prize winners will get Rs 10 lakh and Rs 5 lakh respectively. Last but not the least, there also is a provision of consolation prize of Rs 1 lakh.
In 1967, the total revenue from the lottery sales stood at just Rs 20 lakh and by 2009-10, it reached to Rs 557. 69 crores. The profit almost went up to 100 crores in the same year.

Apart from this, the state government also conducts festival jackpots on the occasion of Onam, Vishu, Christmas and Dussehra.
