New Delhi:

Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy on Sunday said if Indian citizenship was promised to Bangladeshis, half of Bangladesh’s population will leave the country and come to India. Reddy, who was speaking at Santh Ravidas jayanthi celebrations in Hyderabad said, “Half of Bangladesh will be empty if India offers citizenship to them (Bangladeshis). Half of Bangladeshis will come over to India if citizenship is promised (to them). Who will take responsibility? KCR? or Rahul Gandhi?”

He took a dig at Congress and Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) for demanding citizenship to Muslims belonging to Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan and added that Citizenship Amendment Act seeks to provide citizenship to presecuted minorities coming from three countries-Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

He accused TRS and AIMIM of indulging in vote bank politics. “I am challenging the Chief Minister to prove if any one person out of 130 crore citizens of this country were affected by the Citizenship Amendment Act”, Reddy said.

The Union Minister added that some refugees have been staying in India for the past 40 years without any facilities and documents such as voter id, Aadhar or ration card.
