Lalu-Shahabuddin link: TV channel tapes show RJD chief 'taking orders' from dreaded criminal, BJP admires expose

BJP leaders have heaped praises on a TV channel which made an alleged exposé into a strong link between Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and criminal-turned-politician Mohammad Shahabuddin.

A TV channel on Saturday showed an alleged conversation between RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and criminal turned politician Mohammed Shahabuddin on a tape, in which the latter was purportedly heard of issuing instructions. 

As per the report, the RJD chief is yet to respond to allegations. The channel is stated to have received multiple calls from former Bihar chief minister asking it not to play the tape.

Another BJP leader and Uttar Pradesh minister Siddharth Nath Singh said on Republic TV that the channel’s report left the Bihar government with “no option but to file a FIR against Lalu Prasad”. He also alleged that the “mafia” was running the state government.

“Republic of Arnab has exposed how Lalu is taking instructions from Dreaded criminal Shahabuddin. Will Nitish act?” wrote Modi on his twitter account. However, Tehseen Poonawalla called it a completely baseless report. “This is such baseless & made up story on @laluprasadrjd ji on @republic tv. Coz if true 1st answer how do u have pvt conversation?” he posted on Twitter.’

The channel said that Union minister Venkaiah Naidu had said “#LaluTapeExposed has shocked the nation”. The information and broadcasting minister also congratulated Goswami for Republic TV’s launch.

Similarly, senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sushil Kumar Modi said Goswami had exposed how Yadav took orders from “dreaded criminal” Shahabuddin and questioned whether the Nitish Kumar government would take action against him.
