Lalu Prasad Yadav granted five-day parole to attend son Tej Pratap's wedding ceremony

RJD president and former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, who was awarded 14 years of imprisonment in the Fodder Scam case in March, has been granted a five-day parole to attend the wedding of his elder son Tej Pratap Yadav.

Lalu's lawyer Prabhat Kumar and one of his close aides have confirmed the same on Wednesday.

Earlier on Tuesday, Lalu sought a five-day parole from May 10 to May 14 to attend the marriage ceremony of his son, according to RJD national general secretary and lawmaker Bhola Yadav. He is currently in Ranchi to help the party chief get released from the custody.

The RJD chief, who is ailing and currently undergoing treatment at RIMS hospital in Ranchi, will be flown to Patna on Wednesday evening.

Lalu's son Tej Pratap Yadav, a sitting lawmaker and former state minister, will tie the knot with Aishwarya Rai on May 12. Aishwarya is the daughter of RJD legislator Chandrika Rai and granddaughter of former Bihar Chief Minister Daroga Prasad Rai.

Lalu and his lawmaker moved the parole plea after the hearing on his provisional bail application got deferred till May 11 on account of a strike by lawyers.

He is in judicial custody after his conviction in three fodder scam cases related to fraudulent withdrawals from the Dumka, Deoghar and Chaibasa treasuries.

The RJD chief was recently shifted from AIIMS Delhi to Ranchi after doctors there declared him fit.

However, Lalu could not attend the engagement ceremony of Tej Pratap on April 18 over which his family expressed their grief and sadness. Tej Pratap took to micro-blogging site Twitter and posted an emotional tweet saying 'miss you Papa'.

Later, on April 26, he met his father for a few minutes in AIIMS, Delhi and got worried about his health. "Didn’t observe much improvement. At his age, he needs continuous care and monitoring of vital parameters," Tej Pratap said in a tweet.
