A no confidence motion brought by Congress and Left Front against the Trinamool Congress government was admitted in the West Bengal Assembly on Wednesday.
Speaker Biman Banerjee admitted the motion in the first session. Leader of Opposition and state Congress leader Abdul Mannan had last month announced the party’s decision to bring the motion against the government and had accused it of being “undemocratic”.
He had alleged that the ruling party had poached Congress’ MLAs and other elected representatives and had also raised the issue of baby trafficking, swindling of money by chit funds among others.
The number of Congress legislators have come down to 39 after five of its MLAs switched to Trinamool Congress. The Left front has 31 MLAs. TMC had won 211 seats in the last state Assembly poll defeating the Left-Congress combine. The house has 294 seats.
