Security forces thwarted a major attack on a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp in Srinagar's Karan Nagar in the wee hours of Monday. However, one CRPF personnel was killed during the encounter that broke out between the militants and security forces.

The sentry, posted at the CRPF's 23 battalion headquarters, saw two suspected militants approaching the camp and opened fire. The two terrorists who were armed with AK-47 rifles fled from the spot. The incident took place at 4.30 am.

As per last reports coming in the incident, security forces had located and cornered the two militants, and were exchanging fire with them.

Earlier, Ravideep Shahi, the Inspector General of CRPF, told India Today, "Our alert sentry foiled an attempt by two militants... we have called our quick reaction team and a team from Jammu Kashmir police are on task near the camp periphery. No fire came in from the militant side, who disappeared (sic) into dark alleys."

Meanwhile, the operation at Sunjuwan Military Station entered Day 3 with the army launching a  combing operation on Sunday night. So far, five army personnel and one civilian have lost their lives. Around 12 people including personnel and civilians have been injured in the attack, ANI reported.

The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly witnessed strong protests from BJP MLCs against NC MLA Akbar Lone in Jammu over his 'Pakistan Zindabad' slogan in the state assembly on Sunday. The BJP MLCs have demanded an FIR against Lone.
