Three days after the deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri in which at least 18 Army jawans were martyred, fresh encounter between security personnel and terrorists broke out in Bandipora district on Thursday. 1 militant was gunned down.
“One militant has been killed in the gunfight in Bandipora,” an army official said. He said acting on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in Aragam village of Bandipora, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.
As the forces were conducting the search operation, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering an encounter in which, so far, one militant has been killed, the official said. He said the security forces have also recovered a weapon from the site of the encounter.
“The operation is in progress and more details are awaited,” he said, adding the identity and group affiliation of the slain militant is being ascertained.
On Tuesday, two infiltration bids were made from across the border in Kashmir but army foiled the attempts killing some of the terrorists while losing a jawan, barely two days after the terror attack in Uri.
The attempts to cross the Line of Control(LoC) in Uri and Nowgam sectors came even as Pakistani troops violated ceasefire and fired at Indian positions in Uri sector.
The Narendra Modi government has come out strongly in the wake of the Uri attacks. It was reported on Wednesday that PM Modi has given a nod for surgical strikes at terrorists camp across the LoC in PoK.
