Voting ended at 69 out of 70 constituencies of Uttarakhand assembly and 67 seats in phase 2 of UP Polls on Wednesday.
Uttarakhand is witnessing a direct face-off between Congress and BJP. Both the parties will fight tooth and nails to earn the slight edge in the assembly to form the government.
Western UP is the real litmus test for Akhilesh, Mayawati and Modi, as they fight to win over the Muslim majority region. Incumbent CM has the legacy to maintain as the region traditionally favours SP, but Mayawati has been fighting hard to woo Dalit and Muslim voters of the region. PM Modi-led BJP is banking on the Centre’s performance to garner votes.

Electoral issues in Uttarakhand
Uttarakhand is facing a direct battle between Congress and BJP. While incumbent Congress chief minister Harish Rawat holds a lot of political clout in the state, campaign for this election has been rough for him as many of his sitting MLAs revolted after they were not allotted seats or desired seats.
To sway any chances of losing the state, Harish Rawat has gone all out to woo voters by holding several public meetings and roadshows on daily basis in perhaps the most crucial election of his career.
Rahul held two public meetings in Rishikesh and Someshwar besides a 75-km roadshow in Haridwar district which has the maximum number of 11 constituencies in Uttarakhand.
The BJP has been attacking the ruling parties in both the states over corruption. Modi raised the issue of demonetisation and surgical strikes repeatedly at his rallies.
Congress and Samajwadi Party have in turn accused Modi of failing to deliver on his promises and causing suffering to the common man with note ban.
Three-cornered fight in western UP
The 67 constituencies of Western UP going to polls in Phase 2 on Wednesday are witnessing a three-cornered contest between Samajwadi Party, in alliance with Congress, Mayawati’s BSP and Modi-led BJP.
While Akhilesh had registered a sweeping victory in 34 seats in 2012 assembly polls in the region, Mayawati won on 18 seats. But since 2012 NJP has increased its clout in the area, evident by vast improvement in votes during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
