Shopian encounter: 3 terrorists killed, 2 escaped; 2 soldiers martyred; Army launches search operation

At least three terrorists were killed and two soldiers martyred in an overnight encounter between security forces and terrorists in Awneera village of Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian, an official said. The encounter broke out on Saturday evening and ended around noon on Sunday. Search operation is still on. 

IGP Kashmir on Sunday confirmed that three terrorists were killed, while two army jawans lost life in service in the incident. "However, information was of the presence of 5 terrorists out of whom two are believed to have escaped. Firefight ended searches still on," he said.

The encounter also resulted in injuries to three soliders.

Updates:

# Earlier among three militants police identified one militant as Adil Malik, but after proper verification, it has come forward that he is not among killed one. Third militant as per Police Shopian is Probably Yasin Yatoo Alias Mehmood Gaznavi (chief operational commander HM).

#11:15 AM: IGP Kashmir has confirmed that total 3 terrorists have been killed in the encounter.  However, information was of presence of 5 terrorists out of whom two are believed to have escaped. Firefight ended searches still on. Earlier 2 soldiers killed and 3 were injured in same operation.
