Jammu-Srinagar NH remains closed for third day, 1700 vehicles stranded


More than 1,700 vehicles are stranded as the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed for the third consecutive day Friday due to landslides triggered by heavy rains in the Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir. Five landslides triggered by rains struck the strategic 270-km highway at Khuni Nallah, Panthiyal, Digdole, Battery Cheshma and Maroog, blocking the only all-weather road linking Kashmir with rest of the country. The vehicles are stranded on the highway in Ramban, Udhampur, Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts, they said.  Officials said road clearance operations are going on full swing.

Man found dead in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district


A 23-year-old man, who was missing for the past four days, was found dead at Hathi Karonda village in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district, the police said on Friday. The deceased, Deepak, went missing on February 18 and his body was found in the village on Thursday evening, Station House Officer Kapil Gotem said. The police have registered a case against four people, including a woman, and a search was launched to nab the suspects, he said.

Avalanche hits Kashmir's Gurez sector


An avalanche hit a village in Gurez sector of Kashmir's Bandipora district, officials said on Friday. There were no reports of loss of life. "A snow avalanche hit village Khandiyal in Gurez last night (Thursday)," officials of the Disaster Management Department said. They said many houses were damaged due to the avalanche. "However, no deaths or injuries to anyone have been reported," the officials said

Import of goods has stopped from Attari-Wagah border following the Pulwama terrorist attack. A trader Rajdeep Uppal says, 'All trade organisations support the government's decision. We are surprised to know that land trade routes in Kashmir are still open, making the ban ineffective."
