Modi wave wiped out the Kejriwal magic as the trends on Wednesday showed a clear-cut and huge win for the BJP in Delhi MCD elections. The BJP was way ahead of AAP and Congress, which were in a close fight for the second position.
As soon as the trends revealed a clear win for BJP, the blame game began with AAP leaders alleging that the EVMs were tampered and hence the votes went to BJP. They also taunted that it was 'EVM wave' not 'Modi wave' that led the BJP to massive victory. On the other hand, the BJP credited PM Narendra Modi's hard work for the triumph.
After a fierce triangular battle in the Delhi MCD elections, the counting of votes for the crucial municipal polls began on Wednesday amid tight security across the 35 counting centres in the national capital.
The trends clearly show that Delhiites have turned away from Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party, which had won the assembly elections two years ago. To win the Delhi MCD polls was important for AAP to remain politically relevant after losing the Punjab and Goa assembly elections last month.
The high-stakes MCD polls were held on April 23. The polls witnessed a voter turnout of 53.58%, a shade higher than in the 2012 elections.
Polling was held in 270 of the 272 wards of the three municipal corporations. The election to two wards has been postponed due to the death of candidates. Delhi State Election Commission has set up 35 counting centres across the national capital. Heavy security was put in place outside the 35 counting centers across the national capital and the areas were cordoned off.
