PM Modi: Grateful to everyone for consensus on GST, India will set example for world after successful implementation of GST

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday showered praise on Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, saying that the latter is working hard for the development of the state. The Prime Minister congratulated the chief minister for his good work in the state.

While addressing a gathering at APJ Abdul Kalam University, Modi said Adityanath is taking the state forward in a swift manner.

On the occasion, he said India can do wonders in the field of technology and put the country on top. He said the nation belongs to youth and he would urge them to be connected with the latest technology.

He said, " Our youth can think about start ups and innovation in the health sector, particularly in healthcare equipment."  Modi said the scientists are "Modern Rishi" of today. 

The Prime Minister heaped praise on Adityanath for equal distribution of power supply in the state.  

He said, " We are moving forward with the dream of how to make India self-dependent in the field of defense and security."

He thanked all political parties for consensus on GST which would be rolled out on July 1. He further added that India will set example for world after successful implementation of GST.

Modi arrived in Lucknow ahead of the International Yoga Day celebrations on June 21. PM Modi received a warm welcome from Governor Ram Naik and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adiyanath and others at the Lucknow airport.

Earlier on Tuesday, police detained 22 persons in Lucknow, hours before the arrival of PM Modi, over apprehensions that there may be an attempt to block his convoy or create some other kind of disturbance.


“We have detained 22 persons apprehending that they might breach security during today’s VVIP visit,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Deepak Kumar said.

Those detained included some youth leaders belonging to the Samajwadi Party (SP).

Earlier during a visit by the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to the Lucknow University on June 7, a number of students had blocked his cavalcade, raised slogans and waved black flags.

As Adityanath’s cavalcade moved towards the varsity campus, where he had been invited as the chief guest at a programme on Chhatrapati Shivaji, activists from the SP ‘Chhatra Sabha’ and other outfits squatted on the road and raised black flags. The police had a tough time in controlling the protesters.

Last year in January, when Prime Minister Modi visited the Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar University here, he too was greeted with protests as soon as he began speaking at the event.
