Ayodhya Case: Supreme Court asks mediation panel to submit report on July 18 – Highlights

The Supreme Court has begun hearing a plea for early hearing in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case. The bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, is likely to decide on the mediation in the matter.

10:50 am: We have set up a mediation panel. We will have to wait for a report. Let the mediators to submit a report on this: Supreme Court.

10:46 am: Supreme Court dictating order now in the application for early hearing.

10:45 am: We have given time till 15th Aug to the mediation panel: CJI

10:40 am: Mediation has been tried earlier too and failed each time. Let mediation go on but the hearing should resume: Parasaran

10:36 am: Supreme Court resumes hearing. 

10:35 am: The development assumed significance as a five-judge bench headed by the CJI on May 10 had extended the time till August 15 for the three-member mediation panel,  headed by former apex court judge FMI Kalifulla, to complete the mediation proceedings.

10:30 am: Gopal Singh Visharad, one of the plaintiffs in the original civil suit, moved the top court for early hearing of the case.

10:25 am: The apex court had on March 8 referred the matter to the panel of mediators for exploring possibility of an amicable settlement.
